The Bo Kaap Museum is situated in one of the oldest residential areas in Cape Town, in one of the oldest buildings in Wale Street. The earliest development of the Bo Kaap was in the 1960’s when Waalendorp was established and Jan de Waal became involved. The house that today incorporates the museum building is the only one built by de Waal that has maintained its original form, this dating back to 1968.
The Museum was established in 1978 and has been restored and furnished todepict a Malay dwelling of the 19th Century.
